A lot of software can launch automatically at the same time with Windows. While this feature is useful for certain monitors or scheduling programs, in other cases, it will just make the system startup a longer process. The annoying part is that the feature can not be deactivated for some programs. This issue can be solved swiftly due to Startup Defender. It will give you a tight grip on which programs can launch on startup and which can not. When you install a new program and it tries to write itself in a startup location, the software will notify you immediately, so you can choose to allow or deny this action.

The setup package is approximately 600 Kb, therefore it can be downloaded in a few seconds. Installing it on your computer is also a fast process. The standard wizard will only require a destination path and nothing else.

Startup Defender will monitor your Registry for startup programs. These will be listed on the main interface where you can enable or disable their auto-launch features by making use of the check boxes, placed next to each entry. If you are not familiar with one of the entries you can select it and click the Google button on the toolbar. This will automatically perform a Google search on your default browser.

The startup programs list is placed on one of the three navigation tabs on the user interface. The other two tabs feature an advanced task manager and a services list. The task manager can be used to ban certain processes. This is done by adding them to a separate list and selecting an action like close or kill from a drop menu. When that process will try to launch, Startup Defender will automatically stop it. The final tab will display a list of services like Windows Defender, Web Client, HomeGroup Provider and so on. They will be color coded so you can see which ones are running and which are stopped. Starting, stopping, or pausing a service can be done with the aid of the toolbar buttons.

Pros

Startup Defender will monitor your Registry and alert you if a program tries to write itself in a startup location. It will also let you decide if a certain program can launch automatically on system startup or not.

Cons

The software does not have a general settings panel. Startup Defender will keep an eye on your Registry and it will alert you if a program will launch on system startup. With its additional features, any process can be stopped automatically.
